Spitfire Crash 1944 Then and Now

Spitfire Mk IXe MJ136 VZ•S part of a fighter sweep being conducted by 412 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force on the 10th June 1944 from Evereux - Chartres - Argentan. Piloted by Pilot Officer D R Jamieson of 412 Sqn it suffered a glycol leak and was forced to land just to the west of Audrieu. It was then photographed a week later on the 17th June 1944 as a column of Sherman’s from 8th Armoured Brigade move past it toward the village of Audrieu. Pilot Officer Jamieson was returned safely to RAF Tangmere in the UK a few days after he forced landed near Audrieu.
